Adelaide To Host 2014 Velo-city Global Cycling Event

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood has touched down in Vancouver, Canada for the world’s premier cycling planning conference, Velo-city Global 2012.

Stephen, as a guest of the city of Vancouver, will be speaking at the event to build anticipation for Adelaide’s turn to host the forum in January 2014.

The trip will also include preliminary meetings with event organisers and sponsors.

Talking from Vancouver, Stephen said it is a great opportunity to meet with key stakeholders and make some valuable connections.

Accompanying the Lord Mayor is Bicycle SA CEO Christian Haag and a Council representative who form part of the Executive Committee for Velo-city Global Adelaide. Together they will meet with organisers of the Vancouver event to gain insights and an understanding of the work that goes on behind-the-scenes in preparing for the forum.

Adelaide was selected as host for 2014 by the European Cyclists’ Federation earlier this year. It will be the first time the event will be held in the Southern hemisphere and will take place in January.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Patrick Conlon said Adelaide won the right to host the prestigious event over cities including Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Nantes, France.
