Adelaide To Host Ice Hockey’s Greatest Rivalry (And You Can Win Tickets)

Canada and the US are set to play out one of the greatest sporting rivalries of all time on the rink for the Ice Hockey Classic this June. Let the biffo commence!

Let’s be clear – Ice Hockey is the sport of demi-gods. Combining the lithe and agile grace of ice skating with the subtle speedy skills of hockey and with sheer brute strength of rugby, it’s a wonder that Australia doesn’t pay more attention considering our penchant for sports that mask an underlying desire to hit each other. Maybe we’re just not subtle enough to master the other two skills. We certainly don’t like to look the fool on the sporting stage.

Which is why we best leave it to the professionals from Canada and the USA to play out one of the greatest sporting rivalries in the world on the rink for the first time Adelaide this June! If you think we have it in from the Poms on the sporting field, you know nothing of the crunch. This competition is fierce and is complete with the endorsement of the Ice Hockey GOAT (that’s Greatest Of All Time), Wayne Gretzky.

The Ice Hockey Classic was hugely successful along the East Coast in 2015 and included National Hockey League (NHL) stars Brent Burns (San Jose Sharks) and David Booth (Toronto Maple Leafs). This year, NHL All-Star MVP John Scott will captain Team USA and is the first of many exciting player announcements. Along with reigniting one of world sport’s most famous rivalries, these matches will raise awareness and funds for the STOPCONCUSSIONS Foundation. Here’s for acknowledging occupational hazards.

Seeing as this is their first trip to Adelaide, here’s hoping the players don’t get lost amongst the wineries on their day off. Otherwise, that grace and skill we alluded to earlier might not be as obvious.
