Adelaide train disruptions to impact AFL fans ahead of key match

Fans planning to attend the match are advised to stay informed about the latest transportation updates.

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Port Adelaide vs Fremantle game at the Adelaide Oval tonight, fans are facing significant transportation challenges. Reduced train services will force fans to seek alternative routes and transportation modes, following a series of industrial actions taken by train drivers employed by the private contractor Keolis Downer.

The Adelaide Oval, which serves as the home ground for both the Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Football Club during the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, has historically been a hub of sporting excitement. To facilitate easy access for fans, the FREE Footy Express service (AO and AOX) typically operates to and from the venue, providing free travel on Adelaide Metro and Footy Express bus, train, and tram services. This offer is available to those holding a valid game day ticket, starting three hours before weekday matches and extending throughout weekend game days.

Footy Express services cover a wide range of metropolitan Adelaide areas and even include bus services from selected regional areas to Adelaide Oval, ensuring fans from across the state can join in the excitement of the match days without the hassle of driving and parking.

However, this Saturday’s match attendees are advised to double check that their plans aren’t derailed due to ongoing industrial action. Train services will adhere to the standard Saturday timetable, with no additional services to accommodate the increased demand expected for the Port Adelaide vs Fremantile game. This limitation is likely to affect numerous fans planning to rely on these train services for transportation to and from the game.

To mitigate the impact of the reduced train services, additional capacity will be provided on several AO routes, including AOX6, AOX7, AO8, AO15, AOX15, AO17, and AO24. Furthermore, substitute buses are set to be made available after the game to ensure fans can return home despite the disruptions.

Adelaide Metro has extended its apologies to all affected customers and expressed gratitude for their patience during this period. “We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this industrial action,” a spokesperson for Adelaide Metro stated.

Attendees of the Saturday match are encouraged to seek alternative transportation options where possible, with Footy Express and Adelaide Metro working diligently to accommodate the transportation needs of fans amid the ongoing industrial actions.

Fans planning to attend the match are advised to stay informed about the latest transportation updates and plan their travel accordingly to ensure a smooth and enjoyable game day experience.
