If you’re looking for a midweek sporting fix and are partial to a bit of round ball action – with a touch of international flavour – we’ve got you covered. Adelaide United host Chinese club Jiangsu Suning FC at Coopers Stadium this Tuesday May 9th, as part of the AFC Champions League.

Let’s be honest, it hasn’t be the best year for the home town heroes, finishing second last on the A-League ladder, only a year on from being crowned league champions. To make matters worse, the prospect of losing coach Guillermo Amor after the team’s poor showing, looms ever real, as the team looks to press the reset button for next season.

However, despite the dismal results of the A-League, United actually aren’t travelling that badly on the international circuit, having drawn with Gamba Osaka in Japan. This is no mean feat, considering Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney have been knocked out of the Champions League, leaving United the only remaining Australian team left standing.

If you haven’t dipped your toes in the international soccer circuit, the AFC Champions League, also referred to as the Asian Champions League, gives local fans the opportunity to watch world class teams, from the now-burgeoning Asian soccer leagues on home soil.

For first timers, the atmosphere at Adelaide United matches is really second to none and you can expect this to go up a notch when players are also effectively representing not only their club, but their country.

So don something red, grab a crew of your besties and support one of the institutions of South Aussie sport as they take on the world!
