Adelaide will continue to see a cool, showery stretch of weather, with the city set for a wet and windy end to the week before calmer and slightly brighter conditions return early next week. Across the next seven days, there will be below-average temperatures, brisk coastal winds and only a gradual easing in showers as the weekend rolls on.
Today Adelaide can expect cloudy skies and a high chance of showers, especially through the afternoon and evening, with up to 5mm possible in parts of the metro area. Westerly winds at 25 to 40 km/h will swing southwesterly later in the day, making it feel cooler than the top of 19 degrees suggests.
Tomorrow stays grey and cool, with another shower or two possible and a maximum of 18 degrees under fresh southwesterly winds. Sunday looks similar again, with cloud lingering and a medium chance of showers, most likely during the morning and afternoon, before winds ease into the evening. Monday should bring a small break in the unsettled pattern, with partly cloudy skies, light winds and just a slight chance of a shower, along with the possibility of morning fog around Adelaide.
That calmer trend is expected to continue into Tuesday, with partly cloudy conditions and only a slight shower chance as light winds turn west to southwesterly during the day. By Wednesday, Adelaide should finally see a more comfortable change, with mostly sunny skies and a top of 22 degrees. Thursday keeps the milder feel, with a partly cloudy forecast, a slight chance of a shower and light winds becoming southwesterly through the day.
Across regional South Australia, showers are expected to affect much of the southern agricultural area through Friday and Saturday, with isolated falls also extending into the northern agricultural area and the West Coast district. The Mount Lofty Ranges and Lower South East are among the areas most likely to pick up the highest rainfall totals by Monday, with local falls of 10 to 20mm possible. The north should stay mostly sunny and dry for much of the period, while southern parts of the state hold onto the cooler, wetter conditions a bit longer.
Patchy morning fog is also likely across western districts on Sunday and more broadly about the agricultural area on Monday. Temperatures are forecast to remain well below average across much of the state over the weekend before lifting slightly early next week. Further north and northeast, flood impacts continue to be a serious concern, with elevated river and creek levels around Poothapootha Waterhole and Innamincka expected to persist as upstream floodwaters continue moving into South Australia.
Happy Friday and happy Gather Round, stay dry!
