Adelaide is in for a fairly settled run of autumn weather, with a cool, partly cloudy Friday giving way to a sunny Saturday before a brief chance of showers and a possible morning thunderstorm on Sunday. After that, the city looks set to return to calmer conditions, with mild days and a touch more warmth through the middle of next week.
Today, Adelaide will stay partly cloudy, with a slight chance of a shower around the hills and southern suburbs and little to no rain elsewhere. There’s also a small chance of early fog about the hills this morning. Temperatures are staying on the cooler side, reaching 21 degrees in the city, with light winds becoming south to southeasterly through the middle of the day before tending east to southeasterly tonight. It’s a gentle end to the working week, and conditions along metropolitan waters also remain fairly calm, with seas below 1 metre.
Saturday is shaping up as the pick of the weekend for Adelaide, with sunny skies and a top of 25 degrees after a chilly morning low of 11. Easterly winds will tend northeasterly during the morning, but overall it looks like a bright and comfortable day across the city.
Sunday brings the week’s main change, with a medium chance of showers, most likely in the morning, along with the chance of a thunderstorm before conditions clear into a mostly sunny afternoon. Adelaide is forecast to reach 25 degrees after an overnight low of 17, with north to northeasterly winds turning northwesterly during the morning before becoming light later in the day.
By Monday, the city settles again with partly cloudy skies, light winds and a cooler top of 22 degrees. Only a slight chance of early rain lingers closer to the southern coastal parts of the state, but Adelaide itself is expected to stay dry. From there, the forecast becomes more inviting through the rest of the seven-day stretch. Tuesday looks mostly sunny and warmer, climbing to 26 degrees after a morning low of 13. Wednesday turns partly cloudy with just a slight chance of a shower and a top of 25 degrees, before a sunny Thursday rounds things out with a pleasant 24 degrees.
Across regional South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a high pressure system south of the Bight, with a weakening trough brushing the west and south over the weekend. Today, isolated light showers are possible about the southern agricultural area, clearing during the evening, while isolated showers and possible thunderstorms may develop in the far west.
On Saturday, those showers and possible thunderstorms are expected to extend across the West Coast district and may reach Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island late in the day. Sunday is the more active day for southern districts, with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms moving across the agricultural area before lingering along southern coasts into the afternoon. Northern and western parts are expected to remain dry. By Monday, conditions turn mostly fine again apart from isolated early showers about southern coasts. Rainfall totals are generally modest, with up to 2mm for the agricultural area and West Coast district, and up to 2 to 5mm across southern coasts, ranges and the Lower South East.
Happy Friday!
