Adelaide weather forecast for Friday December 13th and the weekend ahead

Adelaide braces for a scorching weekend with temperatures forecasted to soar up to 40°C. A severe heatwave warning is in place for the North West Pastoral District.

Adelaide’s weather is set to see fluctuating temperatures over the weekend, following a partly cloudy yet mostly sunny Friday. The forecast predicts a top of 29°C today with light winds shifting from the south to southwesterly between 15 and 25 km/h around midday, then veering southeasterly by late afternoon.

Looking ahead to Saturday, temperatures are expected to climb as the city experiences a minimum of 15°C and a maximum of 33°C under partly cloudy skies. Winds will shift from east to southeasterly at 15 to 20 km/h, eventually changing to northwest to southwesterly during the day before returning to an east to southeasterly direction in the evening.

The warming trend continues into Sunday, with the mercury set to soar to 40°C after a minimum of 22°C. Conditions will remain mostly sunny, and winds will shift from east to northeasterly at speeds of 15 to 20 km/h, increasing to 15 to 25 km/h from the north to northwest during the day, then dropping back to northeasterly in the evening.

A severe heatwave warning has also been issued for the North West Pastoral District, from now until Sunday December 15th.

A broader perspective on South Australia’s weather reveals a high-pressure system moving over the Bight today and progressing east across the Tasman Sea over the weekend. This shift will introduce a northerly airstream crossing the state. By the weekend’s close, a trough from the west is expected to reach South Australia’s far west, eventually sweeping over the remainder of the region on Monday.

For Saturday, isolated showers could develop in the far west, potentially reaching the West Coast later in the day. Thunderstorms are also a possibility near the WA border area later on Saturday. Temperatures will remain above average, climbing well above typical values in western parts of the state. Winds will be predominantly northeasterly, changing to northwesterly in the western regions, accompanied by afternoon coastal sea breezes.

Sunday will likely bring showers and possible thunderstorms to western areas. It will be hot to very hot across the state with temperatures significantly above average. Winds will transition from northeast to northerly, freshening at times, especially in the west, before a west to southwesterly change moves across the region.
