Adelaide is preparing for a stretch of intense summer weather, with hot temperatures, extreme fire danger and heatwave warnings firmly in place as the city heads into the long weekend and next week.
Today will stay hot and dry, topping out at 35 degrees under clear skies. Northeasterly winds will shift later in the day, but conditions remain harsh, with the Mount Lofty Ranges under an Extreme Fire Danger rating and UV levels peaking at 13.
Tomorrow is shaping up as one of the most dangerous days of the week, with temperatures set to climb to 42 degrees. Mostly sunny skies, strengthening northerly winds and very dry air will combine to elevate fire risks across the state. A gusty southerly change is expected late in the day.
Sunday remains hot, easing slightly to a maximum of 36 degrees. Mostly sunny skies and light winds will keep conditions oppressive, particularly after a warm overnight minimum of 19 degrees. Coastal sea breezes may take the edge off during the afternoon, but it will still be a challenging day for outdoor plans.
Australia Day on Monday looks set to deliver another scorcher, with temperatures forecast to get up to 43 degrees. This is expected to be one of the hottest days of the heatwave, with ongoing bushfire and heat health concerns.
The heat continues into Tuesday, with Adelaide forecast to reach 39 degrees after an unusually warm overnight minimum of 30 degrees. By Wednesday, conditions finally begin to moderate, with sunny skies and a more manageable top of 32 degrees.
With extreme and severe heatwave warnings in place across much of the state, residents are urged to action bushfire survival plans, check on vulnerable family members and stay informed as conditions evolve.
