Adelaide weather forecast for Friday May 15th and the days ahead

Happy Friday! Here’s the weather for May 15th and a look at what’s to come this weekend.

Adelaide is in for a wet and cooler stretch, with rain setting in today and a showery, changeable pattern likely to stick around through much of the next week. For locals, that means umbrellas at the ready for Friday and Saturday, a few lighter breaks on Sunday and Monday, then another burst of showers as temperatures dip further into Tuesday before easing again later in the week.

Rain is the main story across Adelaide today, with cloudy skies and a very high chance of falls developing from late this morning. The city is heading for a top of 23 degrees, with 6 to 20mm possible, so it could be a fairly soggy finish to the working week. Northeasterly winds will keep things moving, but it’s the steady rain rather than blustery conditions that’s likely to be most noticeable around the metro area.

Saturday looks similarly grey and damp, with another very high chance of rain and the possibility of a thunderstorm in the afternoon or evening. Temperatures will ease slightly, with Adelaide forecast to reach 21 degrees after a morning low of 14. Winds will shift through the day, starting north to northeasterly before turning north to northwesterly and then easing off. It won’t be a washout every minute, but there’s enough rain in the forecast to make outdoor plans worth rethinking.

By Sunday, conditions should become a little more manageable. Adelaide is forecast to see partly cloudy skies, a medium chance of showers, and the chance of morning fog. Any showers are most likely through the morning and afternoon, with a top of 21 degrees. Monday follows a similar track, though a little cooler, with a maximum of 19 degrees and a medium chance of showers most likely in the evening. Fog is again possible early, and winds are expected to stay light before turning northwesterly later in the day.

Another cooler change arrives on Tuesday, bringing the highest chance of showers for the second half of the forecast period. Adelaide is heading for 18 degrees, with showers most likely in the morning before easing later in the day as winds swing from northwesterly to southwesterly. Wednesday remains unsettled but lighter, with just a medium chance of a shower and a top of 19 degrees under partly cloudy skies. By Thursday, the city should finally see a quieter day, with only a slight chance of a shower, light winds, and a partly cloudy top of 19 degrees.

Across the rest of South Australia, the pattern is more active, especially through the eastern and northern districts. Showers are expected across central and southern pastoral districts today, increasing over eastern and southeastern parts later in the day, while thunderstorms are possible about the North East Pastoral and West Coast districts, more likely across the Eyre Peninsula.

On Saturday, showers and thunderstorms will affect the east before easing in the morning and then redeveloping across central and northern districts during the afternoon. Some of those storms may become severe, particularly across the Pastoral districts, with isolated falls up to 40mm possible with thunderstorms in areas east of around Coober Pedy. Regional travellers should also be aware of flood impacts continuing in the far north-east, with elevated river levels along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole and the lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka, and many roads and crossings still affected.

Happy Friday, stay dry!
