Happy Monday! As winter tightens its grip on South Australia, Adelaide residents and visitors are set for a spell of wet and largely chilly weather this week. The Bureau of Meteorology’s latest report shows a significant drop in temperature coupled with frequent showers across the state.
Beginning the week, Monday offers a cloudy outlook with the promise of showers, particularly as the day progresses into the afternoon and evening. Residents can expect winds from the north to northeast at speeds of 20 to 30 km/h. The temperature will hover around a maximum of 22 degrees.
The weather on Tuesday will not provide much respite as showers are set to ease though they remain likely, particularly in the early morning with a possibility of a thunderstorm. Winds will initially blow northerly at 15 to 20 km/h, turning west to northwesterly and increasing to 25 to 40 km/h. Temperatures will range between a minimum of 13 degrees and a maximum of 18 degrees.
The situation on Wednesday sees no significant improvement, with continuous showers throughout the day, with potential thunderstorms around the hills and southern suburbs of Adelaide. The temperature will drop further, ranging between a minimum of 10 degrees and a peak of 14 degrees. Winds will initially be northwesterly, reaching speeds of 25 to 40 km/h, before turning westerly.
This wet trend is predicted to stretch across the state with varying intensities and wind conditions throughout the week. A series of vigorous cold fronts and troughs, supported by a low pressure system south of the Great Australian Bight, will extend across South Australia, bringing widespread moisture.
On Monday, there is an established warning across the Lower West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast, and Lower South East Coast. A cancellation has been declared for the Upper West Coast. Tuesday extends this strong wind warning to Adelaide Metropolitan Waters and several other regions, both continuing from Monday as well as including new areas.
