Adelaide is bracing for a hot and mostly sunny Monday, with temperatures climbing to 37°C under a northerly airflow before a sharp change brings showers, thunderstorms and cooler conditions across Tuesday and Wednesday.
The rest of Monday will stay mostly sunny with only a slight chance of rain, though fire danger remains high in the Mount Lofty Ranges and UV levels are extreme. Winds will shift through the day, tending west to northwesterly around midday before returning north to northeasterly by evening. Sun protection is strongly recommended from mid-morning through late afternoon.
A trough moving across South Australia on Tuesday will drive a noticeable shift in conditions. Adelaide is expected to see a high chance of showers, particularly through the morning and afternoon, with possible thunderstorms during the first half of the day. Rainfall totals could reach between 1 and 10mm, with northerly winds turning southwesterly as the change moves through.
By Wednesday, the cooler air will take hold. Skies will begin partly cloudy before clearing, with a much lower maximum of 24°C. Winds will remain southerly, reinforcing the cooler feel across the city after the early-week heat.
Across the broader state, a northerly airstream will give way to a series of troughs and cold fronts sweeping west to east through Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected across agricultural areas and parts of the north, while coastal regions and ranges may see lighter showers and fresh southerly winds.
Temperatures will trend below average across much of South Australia by midweek, with a ridge of high pressure forecast to stabilise conditions later in the week.
Marine conditions are also impacted, with strong wind warnings in place for the Far West Coast on Monday, expanding to include both the Far West Coast and Spencer Gulf on Tuesday.
