Morning! Prepare for a wet and windy start to the week, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Meteorology. A cool southwesterly airstream has developed following a cold front moving over the eastern states, bringing widespread showers, gusty winds, and the chance of a thunderstorm across central and coastal regions.
Today, Adelaide can expect cloudy skies and a very high chance of showers, with rainfall totals ranging from 6 to 25 millimetres. Temperatures will sit between 11 degrees and 16 degrees, and it’ll feel even cooler at times with westerly winds of 20 to 30 km/h. A thunderstorm is possible through the morning and afternoon, adding to the unsettled conditions.
This post-frontal pattern will continue into Tuesday, keeping things cold and showery. The minimum temperature will drop to around 9 degrees, with a top of just 17 degrees. Showers are expected to ease slightly, but the chance remains high in the morning and early afternoon. Winds will stay fresh and southwesterly at 25 to 35 km/h.
By Wednesday, skies will begin to clear slightly, delivering a partly cloudy day and a top of 21 degrees. A shower or two may still pass through in the morning, but the afternoon is expected to be mostly sunny. Winds will be lighter, shifting from southwesterly to westerly before easing throughout the day.
Thursday will bring the first taste of warmth for the week, with a forecast top of 27 degrees. Expect cloudy conditions with a medium chance of showers, mostly in the morning and afternoon, and light winds turning northeasterly during the day.
Heading into Friday, the weather turns cooler again as another front approaches. Adelaide can expect a minimum of 17 degrees and a top of 23 degrees, with a few showers possible and winds shifting from northerly to southwesterly.
Looking at the broader state forecast, South Australia remains under an active weather pattern, with a high-pressure ridge moving east midweek before another low and cold front arrive from the west on Thursday. This will bring renewed rainfall and gusty conditions later in the week.
A Strong Wind Warning is in place for marine areas including the Upper and Lower West Coasts, Central Coast, South Central Coast, and Spencer Gulf, with conditions also expected to affect the South East coastlines on Tuesday. A Sheep Graziers Warning is active for the Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, and Mid North districts, with cold temperatures, showers, and strong winds posing risks to exposed livestock.
