As Adelaide prepares for a chilly max of 17°C today, the Bureau of Meteorology’s warning of increasing showers and strong winds across South Australia continues into the week. The forecast for Monday predicts windy and partly cloudy conditions throughout the day. Showers are likely to increase later in the week but for now there’s only a 10% chance of a drizzle.
For the Adelaide area, winds are expected to ease in the late afternoon from 25 to 40 km/h to 15 to 25 km/h then becoming south to southwesterly and light in the evening.
The sun comes out on Tuesday with a minimum temperature of 7°C and a maximum of 20°C. While the possibility of a shower lingers, the probability of rain drops down to 5%. Light winds will be coming from the north 15 to 20 km/h in the morning turning northeasterly into the late afternoon.
Statewide, a broad westerly airstream with vigorous cold fronts passing over southern parts of South Australia into tonight. To the north, conditions will remain dry, governed by a ridge extending from a high west of Perth, which is set to travel across the state and reach the Tasman Sea by late Tuesday night.
The updated marine wind warning summary extends a storm force wind warning for the Lower South East Coast. Gale warnings are issued for multiple coastal areas, including the Central Coast and Investigator Strait.
In addition to marine alerts, a severe weather warning has been declared for damaging winds affecting regions including Mount Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Island, and parts of the Mid North and Murraylands districts. The advisory highlights the risk of strong westerly winds with damaging gusts reaching speeds up to 90 km/h, particularly near southern coasts. This evening, the Lower South East coast may experience brief destructive wind gusts around 125 km/h as the front passes.
Residents and visitors in affected areas, including Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, and Kingscote, are advised to stay vigilant. The severe weather conditions have already made their presence felt, with a wind gust of 91 km/h recorded at Mount Crawford on Saturday afternoon.
