Adelaide weather forecast for Saturday May 24th and the days ahead

Adelaide will see mixed conditions over the weekend and into next week.

An extreme weather warning is in place for South Australians this weekend, with forecasts for damaging wind gusts over 100km/h, showers, thunderstorms, and possibly record-breaking waves and sea levels.

The Bureau of Meteorology shared that the conditions are due to a series of weather systems, including a cold front sweeping across South Australia today and another expected on Sunday. Given the forecast, a statewide Code Blue is also in effect from 9am today.

For the rest of today, Adelaide will see a maximum temperature of 21 degrees and possibly a shower or two. The chance of rain is estimated at 70 per cent, with potential rainfall ranging from 0 to 3mm. Winds may strengthen during the day, turning from northerly directions to west and northwesterly, and could reach up to 45 km/h.

Tomorrow morning conditions are expected to be mostly sunny but will shift into the evening with forecast showers and windy conditions, with wind speeds potentially reaching 55 km/h. The minimum temperature will be around 10 degrees and the maximum at 21 degrees.

Monday will be a colder day with temperatures expected to dip to a low of 10 degrees and reach only a high of 16 degrees. Showers are anticipated throughout the day with a 100 per cent chance of rain. The potential rainfall could significantly increase to somewhere between 10 to 25 mm. Windy conditions will continue with strong northwesterly winds shifting to westerly later in the day.

Between Tuesday and Friday, Adelaide will see somewhat steady, but cooler conditions with cloud cover varying from day to day. Temperatures will range from lows of 7 degrees to 9 degrees, and highs from 17 degrees to 18 degrees. Showers will ease after Monday, but sporadic rain may still occur, particularly on Tuesday.

A flood warning continues for the inland rivers of South Australia, specifically impacting river levels such as those along the Warburton River at Poothapoota Waterhole, where the levels remain high, and Cooper Creek at Cullyamurra Waterhole.

Strong wind warnings have been issued for this weekend for several coastal areas including Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, Gulf St Vincent, and Investigator Strait, alongside other regions. Gale warnings are also in place for Sunday across multiple west and south coastal areas.

The SES is encouraging people to take proactive action to minimise the impacts of tree damage to their homes and property.

This includes trimming any overhanging tree branches around your property and ensuring gutters, downpipes and drains are clear of leaf litter and other debris.

The SES also advises to secure loose items around the home such as outdoor furniture and children’s play equipment ahead of the forecast damaging winds.
