Adelaide is set for a hot and dry week as temperatures rise sharply and remain elevated through to Friday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. A high pressure system south of the state is maintaining settled conditions, with little rainfall expected across the metropolitan area.
Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a maximum of 28°C. Conditions will remain dry, with south to southeasterly winds helping to keep temperatures below the extreme levels expected later in the week.
Monday will be sunny and warmer, with a cool overnight minimum of 13°C and a daytime maximum of 31°C. Winds will continue from the south to southeasterly, and no rainfall is forecast.
Tuesday brings a sharp increase in heat, with Adelaide expected to reach 36°C under sunny skies. Winds will shift during the day before easing in the evening. Dry conditions will persist.
Wednesday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, with temperatures climbing to 41°C. Conditions will remain sunny and dry, with warm overnight temperatures offering little relief.
Very hot weather continues on Thursday, with a maximum of 39°C forecast. Friday will remain hot, reaching 36°C, before conditions begin to ease.
A cooler change is expected on Saturday, with a maximum of 28°C and the chance of a shower providing some relief after several days of heat.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for Sunday for Adelaide Metropolitan Waters, Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent and the Upper South East Coast.
Across South Australia, isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are forecast in the far northeast on Sunday, with light coastal showers possible early along southern coasts. Most regions will remain dry. Monday is expected to be largely rain-free, apart from a possible shower or thunderstorm in the far northeast corner. Hot to very hot conditions will develop statewide from Tuesday, with maximum temperatures well above average. Wednesday is expected to be the peak of the heat, with dry conditions continuing and no significant rainfall expected across the state.
