Adelaide weather forecast for Sunday September 1st

Adelaide faces a windy and wet finish to the weekend with showers increasing tonight and the possibility of damaging winds, particularly in the hills and southern suburbs.

As Adelaide prepares for a blustery conclusion to the weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued multiple warnings across South Australia due to increasing showers and strong winds. The forecast for Sunday predicts maximum temperatures of 19°C with windy conditions prevailing throughout the day. Showers are likely to increase tonight, with rainfall expected to range from 1 to 7 mm, making the chance of rain about 80%.

For the Adelaide area, conditions are partly cloudy with a high likelihood of showers, especially later in the evening. The region faces the possibility of damaging winds, particularly around the hills and southern suburbs. Winds from the northwesterly direction are anticipated at speeds of 35 to 50 km/h, shifting to westerly at 35 to 45 km/h during the afternoon and evening.

The weather on Monday shows a slight improvement with a minimum temperature of 11°C and a maximum of 17°C. While the possibility of a shower lingers, with an estimated rainfall of 0 to 1 mm, the probability of precipitation drops to 40%. Early morning showers are expected, with winds initially from the west to southwesterly at 30 to 45 km/h, decreasing to 15 to 25 km/h from the south to southwest in the late afternoon and easing into the evening.

Statewide, the predominant weather story involves a broad westerly airstream incorporating vigorous fronts passing over southern parts of South Australia into Monday morning. To the north, conditions will remain dry, governed by a ridge extending from a high west of Perth, which is set to traverse the state on Monday and reach the Tasman Sea by late Tuesday night.

The updated marine wind warning summary extends a storm force wind warning for the Lower South East Coast on both Sunday and Monday. Gale warnings are issued for multiple coastal areas, including the Central Coast and Investigator Strait.

In addition to marine alerts, a severe weather warning has been declared for damaging winds affecting regions including Mount Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Island, and parts of the Mid North and Murraylands districts. The advisory highlights the risk of strong westerly winds with damaging gusts reaching speeds up to 90 km/h, particularly near southern coasts. This evening, the Lower South East coast may experience brief destructive wind gusts around 125 km/h as the front passes.

Residents and visitors in affected areas, including Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, and Kingscote, are advised to stay vigilant. The severe weather conditions have already made their presence felt, with a wind gust of 91 km/h recorded at Mount Crawford yesterday afternoon.
