Adelaide weather forecast for Thursday August 8th

Adelaide and surrounding regions face a deluge with strong winds forecasted for today. The weather front will bring significant rainfall and potential thunderstorms, potentially affecting travel and outdoor plans.

Residents across Adelaide and surrounding areas should brace for a wet and windy day as the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a very high chance of showers throughout Thursday, August 8. Daytime temperatures will struggle to surpass the mid-teens in most locations, with Adelaide and Glenelg expecting a maximum of 15 degrees, while Elizabeth may reach 16 degrees.

The weather system causing this dreary outlook is a strong cold front moving across southern South Australia, supplemented by a high-pressure system over the eastern states. This interaction is yielding cooler temperatures and significant rainfall, possible thunderstorms near western and southern coasts, with typical falls between 2 to 9mm, though some areas might see heavier showers.

In addition to rain, wind warnings are in effect for several coastal areas. The Bureau has issued strong wind warnings for the Lower West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Investigator Strait, Upper South East Coast, and Lower South East Coast, recommending that residents and visitors remain alert to potentially hazardous conditions.

The weather situation is set to improve slightly by Friday, August 9, as the region experiences a mix of sun and patches of clouds, along with a low 10% chance of rain. Early morning fog may be visible in some parts of the south. Although the winds are expected to soften, providing some relief after Thursday’s gusts, daytime temperatures on Friday will be near the seasonal average, with Adelaide reaching a high of 16 degrees following a minimum of 7 degrees overnight.

Across South Australia, the weather will begin to stabilise following the passage of the cold front with another ridge extending across the south. This will likely result in a calmer and slightly warmer weekend relative to the preceding days.

In more immediate terms, it is highly advisable for individuals planning outdoor activities or commuting on Thursday and Friday to prepare for variable weather conditions. Drivers should particularly be cautious of potentially slippery roads and impaired visibility from heavy showers and fog. Outdoor events may also need contingency plans given the high probability of rain throughout Thursday.
