Adelaide is heading into a cool, mostly grey stretch, with clouds lingering through the weekend, a few light showers drifting through, and only a gradual warm-up arriving early next week.
For the rest of Thursday, Adelaide is set to stay cloudy with just a slight chance of a shower and a top of 17 degrees. South to southwesterly winds around 15 to 25km/h will keep the air feeling cool, especially near the coast.
Friday brings a similar look, but with a better chance of showers developing late morning and into the afternoon. The city is forecast to reach 19 degrees after a chilly start of 11, with only light rainfall expected if showers do pass through.
Saturday keeps the cloud cover in place, and another light shower or two is possible, most likely in the morning and afternoon. Winds will ease right back, which should make for a calmer day despite the cool maximum of 19 degrees.
By Sunday, Adelaide remains mostly cloudy, but the chance of rain drops back again. Light winds and a slightly milder top of 20 degrees should make for a fairly settled end to the weekend, even if the skies stay dull.
From there, the outlook starts to improve. Monday is expected to be partly cloudy with light winds and a top of 21 degrees, offering the most settled weather of the week so far. Tuesday looks warmer again, reaching 23 degrees, with a sunny morning before cloud increases and a slight chance of a late shower. By Wednesday, a more noticeable change arrives, with cloud thickening and a medium chance of showers returning. Easterly winds shifting northeasterly later in the day will accompany a milder minimum of 15 and a top of 23 degrees, making it the wettest-looking day in Adelaide’s seven-day outlook.
Across the rest of South Australia, the same slow-moving high pressure system is keeping much of the state under cool, below-average conditions through to Sunday. Isolated showers are expected about the agricultural area and West Coast district today, with more scattered falls near southeastern and far western coasts. In the far southeast, there is also the possibility of small hail this morning. Friday and Saturday continue the run of patchy coastal and southern agricultural showers, while inland areas remain largely dry. Fog is also likely to become a feature in parts of the South East and Murray districts on Saturday morning, before shifting to western parts of the state on Sunday morning.
Rainfall totals are expected to stay fairly modest in most places, with less than 2mm across the northern agricultural area and the far south of the pastoral districts by the end of Sunday. Across the southern agricultural area, totals are likely to range from 2 to 5mm, with higher falls of 5 to 10mm possible along south-facing coasts and up to 15mm about the Mount Lofty Ranges and the far southeast. For coastal waters near Adelaide, conditions will stay choppy today before easing across the weekend, with southerly winds fresh at times and seas settling from 1 to 2 metres down to below 1 metre by Saturday and Sunday.
