Adelaide weather forecast for Tuesday June 2nd and the days ahead

Happy Tuesday! Here’s the weather for June 2nd and a look at what’s to come this week.

Adelaide is in for a cold, wet and windy few days, with showers, possible thunderstorms and damaging winds set to sweep across the city before conditions gradually settle into a calmer long weekend finish. For locals, the biggest weather story is Tuesday’s rough change, with strong westerlies, a wet outlook and hazardous conditions both on the roads and along the coast.

Across Adelaide today, it will stay cloudy with showers likely right through the day and a chance of a thunderstorm this morning. Winds are expected to be the real feature, turning westerly and strengthening through the middle of the day, with damaging winds possible. The city is heading for a top of 17 degrees, with rainfall totals between 7 and 15mm possible. It will feel wintry and blustery across the metro, especially near the hills and coast, and the commute home could be particularly exposed.

Tomorrow keeps the unsettled pattern going, with more showers on the cards and a much cooler top of 15 degrees after a low of 12. Westerly winds will ease a little by the afternoon, but it will still be one of those days where Adelaide feels grey, damp and firmly in winter mode. Thursday brings another round of showers, most likely in the morning, along with the chance of a thunderstorm early in the day. Temperatures will again reach just 15 degrees, while winds shift southwesterly and keep the air feeling crisp.

By Friday, the worst of the wild weather should be behind us, though Adelaide is still likely to see a shower or two, mainly in the morning. The temperature lifts only slightly to 16 degrees, and winds are expected to become lighter during the afternoon. Saturday stays cloudy with a medium chance of showers and a top of 17, so it is not a complete clear-out just yet.

Sunday looks like the first real breather, with partly cloudy skies, only a slight chance of a shower and light winds. Adelaide should reach 18 degrees, making it the pick of the weekend for anyone planning to get out and about. Monday continues that improving trend, with mostly sunny conditions, light to moderate north to northeasterly winds and another top of 18 degrees. After a wintry run, the city finishes the seven-day stretch on a brighter and more settled note.

Elsewhere across South Australia, the same low pressure system is driving much rougher conditions across a broad stretch of the state. Central and eastern districts are seeing gusty showers, patchy rain and possible thunderstorms, while coastal districts face the strongest winds and dangerous marine conditions.

The southern agricultural areas, Mount Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Island and the South East are expected to pick up the heaviest rainfall through to Friday, with isolated falls of 40 to 60mm possible. Abnormally high tides are also expected across all coasts on Tuesday afternoon and evening due to sustained gale-force winds. Further inland, flood impacts continue along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole and the lower Cooper Creek around Innamincka, where elevated river levels are expected to persist for several weeks and road access remains affected in some areas.

Happy Tuesday, stay dry!
