Adelaide will see a shift to more summery conditions this week, with mild coastal weather giving way to intense heat as the long weekend approaches, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Today will stay comfortable, with partly cloudy skies and a top of 26 degrees. Fresh southerly winds will keep temperatures in check, though UV levels remain extreme, meaning sun protection is still essential if you’re outdoors.
Tomorrow is shaping up as bright and breezy, starting with a cool morning low of 12 degrees before climbing to a pleasant 27 degrees. Strong southeasterly winds will develop early, particularly along the coast, making it a cooler-feeling day despite the sunshine and ideal for outdoor plans that don’t involve peak afternoon heat.
Friday will see clear skies, and warming winds will push temperatures up to 35 degrees, marking the beginning of a much hotter stretch with dry conditions and extreme UV levels.
Saturday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, with Adelaide set to reach 41 degrees. Fresh northerly winds and very dry conditions will elevate fire danger across the state, before a gusty southerly change brings some late relief to western and southern areas. Isolated dry thunderstorms are also possible in the afternoon and evening, mainly across inland districts.
Sunday cools slightly but remains hot, with sunny conditions and a top of 33 degrees. Warm overnight temperatures will linger, keeping the heat stress factor elevated, particularly for those without adequate cooling.
Australia Day on Monday is shaping up as another hot one, with temperatures climbing to around 39 degrees under clear skies. It’s classic long weekend weather, but one that calls for sensible planning, plenty of water and regular breaks from the heat.
Conditions ease a little on Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies and a still-warm maximum of 34 degrees, as high pressure settles back in over the south.
