The hot weather is continuing here in South Australia with extreme fire danger, severe heatwave conditions and strong marine winds all in place as temperatures climb well above average across Adelaide and much of the state.
Today, Adelaide can expect a mostly sunny day with a top of 33 degrees and only a 5 per cent chance of rain. Winds will be southeasterly at 25 to 40 km/h. Fire danger is Extreme in the Mount Lofty Ranges and Moderate across the Adelaide Metropolitan area. Sun protection is strongly recommended from 9:10am to 5:40pm, with the UV Index forecast to reach 13, classed as extreme.
Tomorrow will remain hot, with Adelaide dropping to a low of 21 degrees before reaching a maximum of 36 degrees. The day will be partly cloudy with southeasterly winds easing slightly during the morning. UV levels will again be extreme, with sun protection recommended between 9:10am and 5:40pm.
The very hot temps will be back on Friday with temperatures reaching 41 degrees after a warm overnight low of 24 degrees. Conditions will be mostly sunny with easterly winds turning south to southeasterly later in the day. Extreme UV conditions will persist, with sun protection advised from 9:10am to 5:30pm.
Saturday will be cooler with a top of 32 degrees and partly cloudy skies. As we head into February on Sunday, it will be much cooler, reaching just 24 degrees, before temperatures begin to rise again early next week. Monday is expected to be sunny with a top of 27 degrees, while Tuesday will be sunny and warmer at 30 degrees.
A Fire Weather Warning is currently in place for the West Coast, Mount Lofty Ranges and Murraylands, where extreme fire danger is forecast due to hot, dry conditions and fresh east to southeasterly winds. The Country Fire Service urges residents to action their Bushfire Survival Plan now, monitor conditions via local radio and official websites, and call Triple Zero in an emergency.
A Severe Heatwave Warning remains active for Adelaide Metropolitan, Yorke Peninsula, Riverland, Murraylands, Mid North, Flinders, West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, North West Pastoral, North East Pastoral and Mount Lofty Ranges Districts, with severe to locally extreme heatwave conditions expected to persist until at least Friday. Locations likely to be impacted include Clare, Jamestown, Leigh Creek, Mount Barker, Moomba, Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Renmark, Roxby Downs and the Barossa Valley. Heatwave warnings have been cancelled for Kangaroo Island and the Upper South East, although low-intensity heatwave conditions will linger.
BoM advises that severe heatwaves can be dangerous, particularly for older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and those with medical conditions. Residents are encouraged to keep cool, stay hydrated, close homes up early in the day, and use air-conditioning or fans where possible.
For those on or near the water, a Strong Wind Warning is in place for multiple coastal areas. On Wednesday, warnings apply to the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, Lower West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent, Investigator Strait and Upper South East Coast. On Thursday, strong winds are forecast for the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, Lower West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf and Investigator Strait.
