The best of Australia’s new hospitality design took centre stage at the 2023 Eat Drink Design Awards, where exceptional design in the world of dining and drinking establishments was celebrated with fervour.
Among the standout winners was South Australia’s very own Dolly wine bar, located in suburban Adelaide in Unley, which secured the coveted title of Best Bar Design.
The esteemed 2023 jury includeded names like Emma Breheny, Kevin Ho, Di Ritter, Brent Savage, and Amy Woodroffe. All projects completed between July 2021 and June 2023 are eligible for consideration, and Dolly took out a top position.

Designed by the renowned Genesin Studio, Dolly’s victory underscores the remarkable fusion of innovation, style, and functionality in the realm of hospitality design.
Dolly’s triumph at the Eat Drink Design Awards can be attributed to its ingenious approach to creating a welcoming and visually stunning environment. The wine bar’s design showcases a modular layout, highlighted by a commanding concrete bar at its centre and distinct dining zones, each exuding its unique charm. Local materials, carefully curated lighting, and bespoke artworks harmonise seamlessly.
What sets Dolly apart as an exemplar of innovative design in the hospitality sector is its meticulous attention to detail. The establishment’s iconic glazed corner frontage has been ingeniously transformed into a captivating curtain, effectively demarcating various dining areas.
The in-situ formed concrete bar, meticulously prototyped and featuring a bespoke textured finish, stands as an impressive yet inviting centrepiece.

Nestled beneath a new apartment complex on Unley Road, this slick new bar has quickly become a gem within the Adelaide suburbs, offering an exceptional drinking and dining experience.
Dolly is the brainchild of the same team that brought the inner-east neighbourhood gem, Bar Lune, to life. With its meticulously designed interior, Dolly is the perfect place to enjoy well-crafted drinks alongside its fantastic range of snacks.

Described as the ultimate destination for cocktails and mingling with a hint of disco flair, Dolly undoubtedly delivers on its promise to infuse the suburbs with a consistent supply of positive vibes throughout the year.
The menu, a reflection of the same dedication to quality and creativity evident in the venue’s design, has notable highlights including the Jamon, melon, cucumber, sumac, and basil combination, as well as the crab soldiers, which deliver an unforgettable flavour experience.
Six other amazing South Australian hospitality venues were shortlisted for the awards but didn’t take out the top spot, including Fugazzi Private Dining Room and Bar designed by Studio Gram, HNLY designed by Genesin Studio, Luma Bar and Restaurant by Hachem, Sth designed by Adrian Condina, and The Light Room by Georgie Shepherd Interior Design for Best Restaurant Design.
The Playford Hotel designed Hachem was also in the running for Best Hotel Design, Super Egg by Genesin Studio for Best Retail Design, Kin Seafood by Studio Band for Best Identity Design and Our Boy Roy by The Colour Club (Clarence Park, SA).
