Adelaide Woman Jets To Vegas For Global Car Wrapping Win After National Title

Melanie has won the national Wrap like a King 2019 challenge and will be on her way to Vegas in early November to attend Sema – the premier Automotive specialty products trade event in the world – where she’s in contention for the global win.

Hearing the words ‘an Adelaide woman has won the wrap like a king challenge’ immediately takes your mind to what you’d expect to be the Australian version of the film, 8 Mile.

Enter Melanie Fergin, designer by day and car wrapper by night, or should we say car wrapping authority. Melanie has actually been car wrapping for years, but only recently have her talents been recognised on such a huge scale.

Melanie has won the national Wrap like a King 2019 challenge and will be on her way to Vegas in early November to attend Sema – the premier Automotive specialty products trade event in the world – where she’s in contention for the global win.

Spending 19 years with a successful sign writing business, Melanie was invited to join the team at Winguard Paint Protection Specialists in Edwardstown to initially work on a prototype vehicle project.

The competition, which is sponsored by Avery Dennison, who coincidently also supplies Melanie and the Winguard team with the vinyl they used on the Porsche that won them the national title.

The car in question being one of a kind in Australia, the 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Fitted with a Techart kit which is a Carbon Fiber kit worth over €90,000, disassembly had to be done meticulously to ensure nothing was damaged.

From there, the car was stripped of its original paint, brought to a black initial layer and then to a total colour change of glossy silver, courtesy of an Avery Supreme wrap.

This was “made possible by the professional help from Craig and the team from Buik Motorworks at Keswick,” Melanie says.

She also accredits her win to the great team that she works with. Melanie, alongside Winguard director, Tim Allison and the crew, managed to hunker down and also get the car to the annual Porsche Show the following weekend (where they won first prize).

“Thanks to their great clientele the amazing vehicles keep rolling in,” she says.

“The team here love a challenge and this car was our greatest to date.”

Melanie joins winners from every continent around the world, who will all meet in Vegas for Sema, the worldwide exhibition revolving around everything automotive.
