One of Adelaide Zoo’s most popular attractions, Azizi the giraffe, will be celebrating his first birthday this weekend!

Adelaide Zoo is inviting you to join in the party this Sunday, January 16 as the male giraffe turns one in style!

A special keeper talk will be held at 1:30pm by the Giraffe Exhibit and the birthday boy will be treated with special enrichment snacks throughout the day.

Keeper Jemma Cleere says there will be lots of fun in store for both giraffe and visitors alike!

“We are going to have a special keeper talk along with some enrichment for the meerkats,” she said.

“Azizi loves lucerne hay at the moment, but carrots and celery are always a hit – he will be getting all the snacks on his big day.”

Adelaide Zoo invites visitors to dress in their giraffe colours, spotty patterns and clothing inspired by these gentle giants on Sunday.

Guests can get creative with Azizi colouring-in sheets, that can be dropped off ahead of the day to be displayed in the Zoo Shop.

For those who prefer to celebrate online, a giraffe-themed quiz will also with the winner to receive a video message from the birthday boy himself!

The event will also launch ‘giraffe cameos’ at the zoo, a photo opportunity which already has a line-up of cameo stars, including the meerkat mob, groovy goat gang, Aonika the aldabra tortoise, and koalas, Sophie and Louise.

Wistera Restaurant and Fig Tree Café will be serving up special Aziz-inspired cappuccinos and the Zoo Shop will have a special display of giraffe goodies, with a free giraffe face mask to be given away to all visitors who say ‘Happy Birthday Azizi!’.

Visitors aged 16 and older to Adelaide Zoo will be required to show evidence of double covid-19 vaccination (or approved exemption) to enter, with bookings also required.

Book tickets, grab your colouring-in sheets and enter the quiz via the Zoos SA website.
