If rockets, robots and real-life space exploration sound like your type of Sunday, then this July, there’s an event you won’t want to miss.
Space Day Out will officially launch Australian Space Week on Sunday, July 19th, with a massive free community event, bringing together astronauts, scientists, industry leaders and curious minds of all ages for a full day of hands-on activities and out-of-this-world experiences at Lot Fourteen.
The free event will celebrate five years of the Australian Space Discovery Centre, which has inspired thousands of young South Australians to explore careers and opportunities in the rapidly growing space sector.
One of the biggest drawcards of the day will be the chance to hear from Australian astronaut and 2026 Australian of the Year, Katherine Bennell-Pegg. Visitors can attend a special talk and meet-and-greet session between 11am and 1pm, with opportunities for photos and selfies with one of Australia’s most recognised space pioneers.
Attendees will also get an up-close look at Roo-ver Mission, Australia’s lunar rover that is expected to travel to the Moon with NASA in 2030. The rover is part of Australia’s growing contribution to international space exploration and offers a glimpse into the country’s future beyond Earth.
Beyond the headline attractions, the event will feature a wide range of interactive activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire future scientists, engineers and explorers.
Visitors can wander through the Space Showcase, where leading organisations and businesses from Australia’s space industry will demonstrate cutting-edge technology and innovations currently being developed right here in Australia. The showcase will connect the community with the nation’s growing space sector while highlighting the real-world benefits of space research and technology.
So as Australia’s space industry continues to grow, Space Day Out offers an exciting chance for the public to engage directly with the people and technology helping shape the nation’s future in space.
With free entry, family-friendly activities and plenty of opportunities to get hands-on, it’s sure to be one of Adelaide’s most exciting science and technology events.
