Taking place in various CBD and metropolitan venues from Friday May 24th to Sunday June 2nd, the Cabaret Fringe Festival 2024 program boasts an impressive lineup.

“The 2024 Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival showcases a range of international, award-winning, and local cabaret talent, featuring over 40 independently-produced shows across a record number of registered venues on Kaurna Land, and for the first time, in regional areas,” Mark de Raad, Chair of Cab Fringe, says.

After four years of leadership, Lauren Thiel hands over the reins to local Creative Producer, Arts Educator, and Storyteller Simone DiSisto, who is proud to present the festival’s most compelling program yet.

DiSisto highlights the essence of cabaret as a space where performers from various artistic backgrounds converge, fostering innovation and authentic expression.

“This year’s program reflects the diversity of cabaret beyond traditional stereotypes, empowering artists and venues to showcase their authentic voices and art forms,” DiSisto says.

Among the Cabaret Fringe Festival highlights is CabLive at Arthur’s Art Bar, featuring nightly performances by established and emerging musicians, curated by vocal impressionist Leather Lungs. Leather Lungs, also known as Jay Chasland, expresses his excitement for the festival, anticipating a blend of magic, mayhem, and creativity.

Additionally, standout performances include Cowardy Cowardy Custard, showcasing two one-act plays by Nöel Coward, and FRANKLY: FULLY SPREAD by Frankly, known for her razor-sharp wit and captivating vocals.

The festival also pays tribute to Adelaide’s musical history with Beating up the Beatles, celebrating 60 years since Beatlemania hit the city. Other notable acts include Virago Circus at Pirate Life Brewery and the sold-out Burlesque Blues.

Throughout the festival, venues across Adelaide’s East End and West End will host a variety of interactive and special edition open mic shows, ensuring each night is unique and engaging.

Audiences can indulge in a range of cabaret experiences, from intimate performances to extravagant productions, complemented by offerings such as Cabaret Uncorked and High Tea, High Tease.

Cab Fringe remains committed to providing a platform for emerging and independent talent within the cabaret art form, distinguishing itself from the mainstage Adelaide Cabaret Festival as an open-access festival.

Originating in France in the 1880s, cabaret continues to evolve globally, encompassing various genres and performance styles. Cab Fringe embraces this evolution, fostering a community that is diverse, daring, and delightful, with support from partners including The City of Adelaide, Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA), and local sponsors.

As the festival unfolds, audiences can expect a celebration of cabaret’s rich history and vibrant future, reaffirming Adelaide’s status as a hub for artistic innovation and expression.
