If getting together with the girls and discussing your latest read with a side of spritzes sounds like your ideal Wednesday night, you’re in luck! Next week, Adelaide’s East End will play host to just that as Pink Shorts Press team up with the stylish Septimus House of Cheese & Wine for a one-night-only event that’s equal parts book club and cocktail hour.
Wednesday, October 15th, will see ‘Spritzes & Stories’ bring together readers, writers, and anyone who loves a good chat (and a good drink) for an evening of swapping books, sipping limoncello spritzes, and quality catch-ups.
The concept is simple. Guests can bring along a book they love and swap it with someone new, all while enjoying a citrusy spritz.
The event is hosted by Pink Shorts Press, one of Adelaide’s proudly independent publishing houses, led by Margot Lloyd and Emily Hart. They’re known for their championing of bold, socially conscious, and slightly offbeat stories, and the pair are as passionate about building communities as they are about publishing.
“We’ve always believed that stories don’t just live on the page – they spark conversations and connections. We love the idea of events where people can bring along their book club, or perhaps meet new book club friends,” shared Emily.
“Pink Shorts Press is proudly South Australian, and pairing literature with a delicious beverage feels like a very Adelaide way to spend an evening.”
On the night, Emily and Margot will guide a conversation inspired by Adelaide author Barbara Hanrahan’s ‘Annie Magdalene’, exploring the ways our city has been captured in literature. From there, the discussion will open up to the bigger questions like why we still turn to the page in these screen-heavy times, how books come to life, and what keeps us hooked on the written word. In between, there will be plenty of time for mingling and chatting with the crew around you.
As for the venue, it is just as much a star of the evening. Septimus House of Cheese & Wine opened earlier this year and has already become one of the East End’s most stylish spots.
Owner Ian Coker says Septimus is a place to explore something new, whether that’s an unexpected cheese and wine match or a South Australian producer you haven’t come across before. This is an ethos that pairs perfectly with Pink Shorts’ mission of introducing readers to new voices and ideas.
So if you’ve been looking for something to break up and spice up the week, this is just the thing! Catch ‘Spritzes & Stories’ from 6pm.
