Adelaide’s Famous Poffertjes Parlour has announced the dates for their next pop-up in the Adelaide Central Market, where they’ll be for five weeks from September 17th until October 19th.
This will be the last Poffertjes pop-up of the year, so it’s your final chance to taste these unbelievably good, mini fluffy pancakes. Traditionally served with powdered sugar, and sometimes with cinnamon, creme, and butter, poffertjes are a Dutch carnival treat that has been enjoyed for centuries.
The parlour has been a staple in Adelaide for about 50 years, using a secret family recipe passed down through four generations. Known for their appearances at the Adelaide Fringe, and their long-time presence at The Royal Show before COVID-19, they are considered the original poffertjes parlour in the Adelaide.
“My mother brought idea here in 1971 and I have been a part its legacy since I was 15,” Owner of Adelaide’s Famous Poffertjes Parlour, Irene Tredrea, says.
“The market has been so supportive and making this position available for us. We’re basically returning to what feels like home as my mum was there running the stall in the 80s.
“It’s a central place for people with fantastic food. It’s definitely one of Adelaide’s best kept secrets.”
Irene designed a new cart for the pop-up location, creating it in the classic “old cart” style from generations past. She repurposed old copper from the counter of their former popular crepe store, Bruxelles, on Henley Beach Road.
Irene says she’s excited to continue serving Adelaide the best Poffertjes on offer: “There will be definitely be long lines and the market always closes on the dot, so make sure you don’t come too late and miss out.”
