After a little nap and a whole lot of life happening, Double is returning this September with more sparkle, more sass, and way more style.
Originally the solo passion project of local plus-size fashion identity Lauren, the market quickly became a cult favourite for fashion lovers who don’t fit the mainstream mould. But being a one-woman powerhouse has its limits.
“I just didn’t have capacity anymore on top of kids, business and life,” Lauren says.
“Enter The Committee. Four of the fiercest fat babes have jumped in to help, and now we’re a crew of five making this inclusive event come alive again.”
This relaunch isn’t just a comeback. It’s a celebration. Expect market runways, next-level boutique labels, tasty eats and a brand new venue that’s set to shake things up.
“It’s five times the fat joy,” Lauren laughs. “We’re keeping it fresh.”
If you’re wondering how it all started, cue a chaotic and joyful road trip to Melbourne earlier this year. Five friends. One car. Eight hours of laughter, wild ideas and fashion dreams. By the time they arrived at the A-Plus Market in Melbourne, The Committee was born and the Double revival was set in motion.
Double is a whole vibe.
“Double is so much more than a market,” Lauren says.
“It’s a safe, inclusive space where we celebrate our bodies, our friendships and our true selves. It’s something we desperately need more of in Adelaide.”
The September market will feature cult faves like Curvature, Six Times Seven, GG Made, Peloponnese and Accidental Jumper Co, plus fresh additions like Oh Ramona, Be Keane Activewear and Embracing Bella. There’ll also be racks of curated pre-loved fashion in sizes 24 and up.
“It’s harder to find plus-size pre-loved, so we’re proud to always have around half a dozen stalls with sizes 24 and above. But we’d love more,” says Lauren.
And the response? Off the charts.
“We’ve had a zillion beautiful DMs from past stallholders, regular shoppers, thrift superstars and newbies,” she says.
“Even interstate plus-size labels are coming over in September. The support has been unreal.”
This is about creating a space where everyone feels safe, welcome and celebrated.
“We champion diverse bodies and show kindness to all humans,” Lauren says.
“We won’t tolerate fatphobia, sexism, racism, ableism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, bigotry, hate speech, discrimination or bullying. Not here. Not ever.”
So what’s the energy you can expect from Double?
“Community, connection, fashion… immaculate vibes.”
The new venue is in Goodwood, and trust us, you’ll want to be there. Bring your wallets, your besties and your most fabulous self.
Because when you leave Double, Lauren says, “you’ll feel seen, celebrated and absolutely f**king fabulous just as you are.”
