Adelaide’s first ever coffee party was a raging success, with another planned

The big question: Can you throw a party without booze? We think an innovative new concept has answered with a resounding YES.

The big question: Can you have a party without booze? An innovative new concept has definitively answered this question with a resounding YES.

With two events already under its belt, Coffee Sessions is redefining how we get our boogie on by trading late nights for cruisey mornings.

Now, Coffee Sessions is gearing up for its third event, locked in for 11am on 17 May at Norwood cafe, Planter and Loft.

Meet the session bringing a house party to your morning coffee.

Picture all the vibes of a daytime dance music festival in a bright, open venue, coffee in hand, respectful dancing front and centre, and good vibes flowing from morning to afternoon.

A Coffee Session is a daytime dance event that blends laid-back house music with a relaxed, social atmosphere, minus the hangover.

Designed for music lovers who love hanging out with old friends and making heaps of new ones. It’s a mindful alternative to traditional clubbing, with cups of coffee rather than cocktails.

At a Coffee Session you can expect a lineup of house DJs, the smell of freshly ground coffee in the air, and a mindful, energetic crowd.

Juan Torres from Coffee Sessions said, “It’s interesting because I’ve been doing events in nightclubs of techno and house music for the past four years.”

“There was alcohol involved every time, and I got to a point where I felt the need to change that,” Juan said.

To say the idea has been a hit is a complete understatement, the most recent session being the perfect example.

“We were expecting people to arrive around midday,” Juan said. “But at least ten people were already waiting outside. That was really different to the first time, and it feels like we’ve already grown a lot.”

One of the key players in the event’s success is the choice of space, and the one they’re using is versatile, and has distinct zones. That’s what makes Planter & Loft in Norwood the perfect choice.

“Upstairs, you can chill out and watch the action below. You can see the DJ and all the dancing, but still have a conversation,” Juan says.

“Downstairs is the dance floor, where you can order food and drink (and dance).”

“And outside, it’s open air, and you can still listen to the music. So those three spaces are pretty great for making people feel like they can use the location in different ways,” Juan adds.

Coffee Sessions are all about coffee, dancing, and wellbeing, but it’s also about building something bigger.

“Eventually we want to build a festival. Something that supports local businesses, helps create community, and gives everyone a win,” says Juan.

The music plays a central role in that vision.

The DJs for 17 May are still under wraps, but if they bring the same energy as the last event, this is definitely one you won’t want to miss.

“The DJs are key. We play some commercial music, but also want people to discover new sounds. That’s what we’re all about,” Juan continues.

That spirit of discovery extends to the crowd, too.

“We’re open to everyone,” he says. “We’ve had people from Colombia, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, even some from Arabic countries.”

There’s a mix of cultures and ages, and with the venue’s layout, it works for all kinds of people.

Wellbeing-oriented events have been all the rage come the last couple of years, see yoga dance parties on the beach, and even an epic sunrise disco on the Glenelg foreshore.

Could the trend of early starts, daytime dancing, and feeling fresh the next morning become the new normal for party lovers? We can’t wait to find out!
