The Semaphore Greek Festival is gearing up for its 43rd annual celebration, which will be a weekend filled with Greek culture that brings all the flavours, sounds, and sights of Greece to the shores of Port Adelaide.
As one of Australia’s premier Greek cultural festivals, this event has grown to become one of the largest of its kind in the country, and will take place across January 13th and 14th, 2024.
The festivities will unfold on the Semaphore foreshore, with Semaphore rides and Semaphore Road cafes just a leisurely stroll away, and with free admission, the Semaphore Greek Festival invites you to gather all your friends and family for a fun weekend out.
The festival’s success is deeply rooted in the collaborative efforts of dedicated local volunteers who invest countless hours to ensure its success, creating an atmosphere of community and family spirit that sets the stage for the cultural experience.
The volunteer-driven festival is not only a feast for the senses showcasing Greek culture, but it also gives back to the Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Community.
This year, Australian TV Presenter George Donikian will be the MC for the festival, and there will be plenty happening across the two days.
One of the festival’s main attractions is, of course, the mouthwatering array of Greek food. The festival will be serving up Greek classics such as mouth-watering Yiros, succulent Souvlaki, and the sweet, honey-drenched delight of Loukoumades. And, there will be drinks available to complement these delectable treats.
The talented Port Adelaide Greek Dance Academy will hit the stage with dynamic performances of traditional Greek dances. There will be a mix of classic and modern vibes for everyone, offering a chance for locals to shine and maybe even learn a step or two.
This year, the festival will embrace a theme of ‘Semaphore Smiles,’ reflecting the shared happiness and unity within the diverse community. From the smiling faces of volunteers to the sun-kissed shores of Semaphore, each grin tells a story of shared culture and joy.
If you’re feeling lucky, participate in the festival’s annual raffle for a chance to win two return tickets to Greece. That’s right, you could be jetting off to soak up the Mediterranean sun just by being part of the fun.
And if attending in person isn’t possible, there will be a live social media broadcast of the festival so you can catch the action from anywhere.
The Semaphore Greek Festival is supported by the South Australian government, the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, and a fresh partnership with the Bank of Sydney.
So, gather your friends and family and head down to the Semaphore foreshore for a weekend of fun that’s sure to start the year off right.
