Adelaide’s last remaining 100% family-owned urban winery is up for sale

After almost 100 years, Adelaide’s last remaining fully operational, family-owned urban winery is up for sale.

After almost 100 years, Adelaide’s last remaining fully operational, family-owned urban winery, Patritti, has been put on the market. Founded in 1926, this iconic venue in Dover Gardens has played a huge role in South Australian winemaking, producing a range of wines, sparkling wines, aperitifs, and non-alcoholic options.

In a statement, the Patritti family announced their decision to sell the winery, alongside their Tatachilla and Blewitt Springs vineyards, due to a combination of factors “including the industry environment and succession considerations,” adding that it came “after careful reflection on the challenges faced by the industry in recent years, as well as the unwavering commitment shown by the Family, Board, Management and Staff.”

Patritti Wines remains 100% family-owned and continues to operate from its historic location in Dover Gardens. The winery is also home to its cellar door, which has been a popular destination for wine lovers since the 1970s.

In 2021, Patritti entered a new chapter with the launch of Cellar II, a revamped wine bar and outdoor seating area designed to improve the venue’s appeal as a modern hospitality space. Visitors were able to enjoy wine tastings, platters, live music, and food trucks, all adding to the vibe that made the venue even more of a community spot.

Patritti’s location played an important role in its appeal. Located within a quiet residential street, the winery is just 10 minutes from Glenelg and Brighton and only 20 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD. This proximity allowed it to offer an urban winery experience that brought the charm of McLaren Vale wine country to the heart of the city without the lengthy commute.

The sale of Patritti Winery presents a rare opportunity for prospective buyers to acquire a fully operational winery with “a well-established brand presence in both wine and juice, an operational hospitality venue, and suite of contracting services.”

“The Patritti Family extends heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported and been part of the
journey over the years,” the statement concluded.

For nearly a century, Patritti has been a huge part of Adelaide’s wine heritage, and the potential sale marks the end of an era for both the family and the industry. For the time being, it’s business as usual at the Patritti Cellar Door and entertainment venue, which will continue as normal for the foreseeable future. The community is encouraged to keep visiting and enjoy the space!
