French Charcuterie and Patisserie, Les Deux Coqs, is leading the way in reducing food waste as the first business in Adelaide to join Foody Bag, an app that helps retailers sell unsold food at a fraction of the price. This initiative is giving locals the chance to enjoy delicious French delicacies while saving money and helping to tackle food waste.
For a bit more understanding of Foody Bag, the app is designed to help planet-conscious food retailers sell their leftovers and food waste at discounted prices, making it possible for customers to purchase perfectly edible food that would otherwise go to waste. The concept is simple: users can buy food from bakeries, cafes, restaurants, and even supermarkets, usually for one-third or half of the original price.
Through the app, customers can browse available “Foody Bags” from participating businesses, which are often filled with a mix of bakery treats, cafe snacks, or fresh produce. After selecting their bag and making payment, customers receive a QR code to pick up their food at the chosen store.
With locations in the Adelaide Central Market and Rundle Mall, Les Deux Coqs has all the best authentic French food, from pastries and charcuterie to cakes and tarts. By partnering with Foody Bag, Les Deux Coqs is now offering a “lucky mix”: a random selection of savoury and sweet items that would have otherwise been thrown out at the end of the day at a discounted price.
In a post to Instagram announcing the collaboration, Les Deux Coqs said: “This Australian app aims to help save your money and reduce our food waste! Plus it saves our planet!
“With the cost-of-living crisis impacting many of us, we also thought that it could be a welcomed initiative. Small changes in household habits can have significant impacts, benefiting family budgets, retailers and the planet.”
To get your hands on some Les Deux Coqs tasty treats through Foody Bag, all you have to do is download the app, select one of Les Deux Coqs stores (either Adelaide Central Market or Rundle Mall), and check if they have leftovers available from that day. If they do, make your payment and receive the QR code for your order. Then, visit your chosen store at collection time (within two hours before the end of the day), show your code and and pick up your food (obviously bring your own bag too).
With food waste continuing to be a pressing issue and cost-of-living pressures affecting many, Les Deux Coqs is leading the way in Adelaide by joining initiatives like Foody Bag. They’ve created a fun and sustainable to enjoy delicious food, save money and contribute to a greener planet.
