Adelaide’s Longest Lunch (Literally) To Run Along Torrens Footbridge

Adelaide’s Torrens River Footbridge is set to host 600 diners this October as some of the state’s best chefs and producers combine for Adelaide’s Longest Lunch.

Can Adelaide actually remember what life was like before the Torrens Footbridge was built? Oh, those were just the dark ages weren’t they. There was no mobile phone service, we had no idea what small bars were and good coffee was hard to find. Did Adelaide even have electricity back then?

Jest aside, this 255m centre piece of the Riverbank precinct transformation has seen hundreds of thousands of pedestrians and cyclists since it’s completion in 2014, but it has never hosted gourmet dining before (sure the odd footy pie has been eaten across it, but while our bakers make a cracking crust this is set to step things up).

Come Friday, October 21 the footbridge will play host to the inaugural and aptly named Adelaide’s Longest Lunch. Out in the open air with the fresh spray of the Torrens wafting across white linen tables, the first event of its kind will bring together some of South Australia’s finest chefs, winemakers, brewers, producers and restaurants with an estimated 600 seats available in support of charities through the Westpac Foundation.

Just some of the names to feature are George Kasimatis from Georges on Waymouth, Tony Hart from the InterContinental, Spencer Cole of Adelaide Casino, Andrew Davies from Press Food & Wine and Osteria Oggi and Andre Ursini from Andre’s Cucina and Polenta Bar will all be hosting exclusive tables of ten along the bridge. This is another bold statement towards showcasing the outstanding quality of this state’s food and wine industries, which seem to have been really hitting their stride across of late.

It seems fitting that the meal of such finery should take place overlooking one of the most dynamically developing precincts of our city. We’d wager that if the $2500 (excl GST) for a table of 10 is a bit steep, the best position to watch from and smell the beautiful food being served would be along the Rooftop Climb at the Adelaide Oval. That’s if you wanted to be cheeky about it.

For those game, bookings can be made through Ida Wong on 82302166 or [email protected]
