THE QUEENS, an exciting new addition to the Adelaide Fringe, opened its doors on 19 February with a stunning line-up of cabaret, comedy and music stars.

Presented by GWB Entertainment’s Richelle and Torben Brookman in association with Amelia Ryan and Release Creative’s Zac Tyler, Adelaide newest Fringe venue transforms the historic Queens Theatre into the Fringe’s home of cabaret, comedy and live music in the West End of the city.

“THE QUEENS is an amazing venue and a great addition to the Fringe landscape,” says Fringe director and CEO Heather Croall.

“It’s an incredible piece of South Australian and Australian history and now it’s a spectacular Fringe venue. The set-up is wonderful and the line-up of shows is absolutely brilliant and I’m sure audiences will love seeing these artists perform in such a stunning theatre.”

THE QUEENS’ opening night features performances by the legendary Carlotta, the popular Michael Griffiths and a variety of Fringe and cabaret stars as part of the raucous late-night cabaret showcase that is Club Queens.

“It’s incredibly exciting to throw open the doors to this iconic venue and welcome some of our favourite artists from across the country into the Queens Theatre,” Richelle Brookman says.

“We’ve got a fantastic mix of music, comedy and cabaret that will delight audiences right here in the heart of the city’s West End.”

For the entirety of the Fringe season, THE QUEENS is where audiences can enjoy a curated line-up of Australia’s best performers under the one roof.

The socially distance-friendly venue features an inviting bar (The Queens Bar), cellar door (Clare at the Queens), lounge area and laneway garden (Channel 10 Lane) that will host people pre- and post-shows, while the main performance area, The Chamber, will house 220 seats, including premium tables, theatre-style seating and high-table options.

Joining Carlotta and Michael Griffiths at THE QUEENS is some of Australia’s great comedy, music and cabaret talent including Paul McDermott and Catherine Alcorn, Prinnie Stevens, Amity Dry and Jo Lawry.

“After a year of delving into the relatively unknown, to see our vision realised is quite something and absolutely thrilling,” Amelia Ryan says.

“The audience is the final piece of puzzle; we can’t wait to welcome everyone after a challenging 12 months to say: ‘let’s celebrate together’.

THE QUEENS’ opening weekend features local music identities Max Savage (presenting the classic album Astral Weeks on Saturday night) and The Hollows (on Sunday night) while Amity Dry, Mark Stefanoff, Jo Lawry and Libby O’Donovan are just some of the guests confirmed for the Friday and Saturday night instalments of Club Queens.
