Adelaide’s Olympic Welcome Home Parade

A civic ceremony at the Adelaide Town Hall followed by a parade through King William Street to Rundle Mall will celebrate the home-coming of our Olympic athletes on Thursday 23 August.

With viewing available from the eastern side of King William Street, the parade will depart the Town Hall at 12 noon, arriving at the Rundle Mall canopy main stage area at 12.30 pm.

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said the event is a great opportunity for the people of South Australia to congratulate the Australian athletes by cheering them on.

“All of our Olympians did a great job and showed us just what can be achieved through a combination of hard work, talent and dedication.

“South Australians should get out on the streets of Adelaide and celebrate our athletes,” said Stephen.

“Make the Parade memorable and show them how proud we are.

“Celebrations in Rundle Mall start at 12.30 and we’re expecting a huge crowd,” he said.

The rolling street closure will be supervised by SAPOL and will ensure crowds, including families and school groups, have the best view of the parading athletes possible.

The parade will leave from the Town Hall at 12 noon to arrive at Rundle Mall Gawler Place Canopy at 12.30 ready for the athlete interviews which will be hosted by Channel 9 weather presenter Brenton Ragless.

At the canopy fans will have the chance to meet team members and get their autographs.
