Adelaide’s Still Aware Gala is on this October in support of stillbirth prevention hoping to raise over $200k

The Still Aware Gala brings community and leaders together for stillbirth prevention awareness at SkyCity Adelaide.

One of Adelaide’s most meaningful nights of glamour and giving is back. The Still Aware Gala will return on Friday, 17 October, taking over the Eōs by SkyCity Adelaide for an elegant evening. Now in its eleventh year, the event has become a cornerstone in South Australia’s calendar, raising awareness and funds to help end preventable stillbirth.

Guests will step into a ballroom with sweeping views of the River Torrens, greeted with a three-course dinner, five hours of flowing drinks, and a line-up of entertainment led by Adelaide favourites Gospo Collective.

The evening will be guided by 7News reporter and weather presenter Gertie Spurling, with live and online auctions adding to the excitement.

Tracey Clark, Head of Community and Engagement at Still Aware, says the growth of the gala reflects the impact of the cause.

“Each year our gala keeps growing and growing, and more people get involved to help us raise much needed funds to support Still Aware’s mission to end preventable stillbirth,” she says.

Last year more than 300 guests filled the National Wine Centre, helping raise over $200,000.

This year’s line-up of auction items is set to impress again, with a two-night luxury stay at Sequoia Lodge, a Mark Lobert artwork valued at $6,500 and even an Audi driving experience.

For the first time, the gala will also feature a Hand Heart Wall. Guests will be able to purchase a pocket-sized wooden heart, each carved from olive trees in Bethlehem, to honour a baby born still.

“Each heart is handmade and unique, just like the little life they represent, with 100% of proceeds going towards Still Aware’s mission,” Tracey says.

The work of Still Aware has never been more urgent.

“Six families are affected by stillbirth every day in Australia,” Tracey says.

“That’s one in 135 pregnancies. It is a horrific statistic that makes stillbirth neither rare or acceptable and that’s why we host this highly anticipated event – to get the community talking about stillbirth and ending preventable cases.”

Still Aware Board member Dr Anneliese Perkins, an Obstetrician and Sonologist, adds that knowledge is key.

“We have evidence to suggest stillbirths that occur after 28 weeks and in the third trimester can be prevented,” she says.

“It starts with debunking common myths and misconceptions and empowering families with the tools and resources to keep their baby safe. Our gala is just one meaningful step forward in raising awareness, driving change, and supporting lifesaving stillbirth prevention work.”

The evening will bring together politicians, health professionals, business leaders, volunteers, and families who have been touched by loss.

“Over ninety per cent of tickets have already sold in a huge show of community support,” Tracey says.

“If you miss out on attending this year, we are always accepting auction items or donations via our website stillaware.org.au or you can participate on our online bidding platform.”
