It’s that time of year again, when International Burger Day rolls around, and we’re reminded of how many GREAT burger joints there are in South Australia.

While we all have our favourites, one Facebook group called Adelaide Burger Lovers, have a passionate community of 14,500 burger fans who commonly share and debate the best burgers kicking around the State.

It’s for this reason, we called upon their vast burger knowledge, and experience, to vote for the best burger joints in Adelaide – and with hundreds of votes being cast – we’ve come up with a must-visit list of places to check out. Because even though it’s International Burger Day, we think every day is pretty much a burger day. Right?

1. Stax

Overwhelmingly the group’s favourite burger destination, Stax call themselves Burger Artists, and artists they seem to be! Their creations span from mammoth towers of meat and bun which terrify the uninitiated (like the The Beef Belter – featuring 15 patties and 30 pieces of cheese), to more manageable photo-worthy burgerlicious delights. While ugly burgers can still taste great – Stax have managed to tick all the boxes, with their mouth watering creations.

2. Burgertec

A close second was Burgertec – another extraordinary venue dishing up heart attacks in a bun. Burgertec features a “Biggies” menu, with ginormous burgers such as the Erry’Thang pilled high with Southern fried chicken, ground beef, double cheese, lettuce, bacon, egg, and more. The venue also dishes up a variety of daily specials, such as $6 Cheeseburger Tuesdays, $7 Sando Thursdays, and $15 lunch specials.

3. Beefcakes and Shakes

Also on the Top Burgers list was, unsurprisingly, Beefcakes and Shakes! On top of their daily loaded and delicious burger offerings are monthly over-the-top burger specials and shakes. When they opened in 2020, they started this ritual with the Krispy Kreme Burger and a Notorious Caramilk Shake, and they were just the beginning.

4. Burger Incredible

After making number four on the top ten list, Burger Incredible really must be incredible. Each burger packs a punch, and are more creative than the last one. Similar to Burgertec, Burger Incredible does epic Burgers of the Month and great deals like $10 Chicken Burger Tuesdays! Interestingly, Burger Incredible also mixes up their buns, using Mac and Cheese are waffles to hold their burgers together!

5. Barry’s Burgers

Smack bang in the middle is Barry’s Burgers – one of the “pioneers” of the Australian Burger scene back in 2015. Barry’s, based in Semaphore, publicly recommends their Signature Burger, Baz Deluxe, but has a wide range of Beef, Chicken, Veggie & Vegan options. Their Haloumi burger looks particularly bangin’.

The South End’s favourite burger joint is Fudds! If you’re looking for a melt-in-your-mouth burger, Fudds is a great option, featuring things like the “Hamageddon”! Boasting double beef patties, double leg ham, caramelised onions, tomato, and topped with homemade cheesy mustard sauce, what’s not the like?

Tim & Kyle from 2017’s My Kitchen Rules teamed up with their best mate and head chef Kain to bring Adelaideans CARŌCLUB. CARŌCLUB now has a permanent home in Plant 3 Bowden, and also offers catering options.

9. Port Burger

Another burger bar down South that kicks some serious goals is Port Burger! From Texan Brisket Burgers and loaded fries to Spicy fried chicken tenderloins with chimmichurri spuds… I bet we could name a few things that would go down nicely. The Adelaide Burger community seemed to agree!
