Adelaide’s weather is set to remain partly cloudy today with minimal chances of rain, reported at just 5%. Residents of northern Adelaide may experience fog and frost this morning, with conditions expected to clear up as light winds from the southwest pick up, reaching speeds of 15 to 20 km/h around midday before tapering off by the late afternoon. The maximum temperature is forecasted to reach 18 degrees.
Moving into the weekend, Saturday shows a slightly increased chance of rain at 20%. The day will start with light southeasterly winds, strengthening significantly throughout the day to 30 to 40 km/h by late evening. Despite being partly cloudy early, there is a slight possibility of showers. The temperatures are expected to range from a low of 8 to a high of 17 degrees.
Sunday promises clearer skies with sunny weather dominating and a steady wind from the southeast at speeds of 25 to 40 km/h. The temperature will mirror Saturday’s, peaking at 17 degrees after a colder start at 6 degrees in the morning.
Across South Australia, a high pressure system located over the Bight is the defining factor in the current weather patterns. Although a cold front will touch the far southeast later today, prompting this high center to shift southwards, the system will gradually move northeast over the weekend reaching the eastern states by Tuesday and heading to the Tasman Sea by Wednesday. This movement will herald another cold front that will sweep across South Australia by next Wednesday.
Today, regions in the agricultural zone woke to cold temperatures and areas of frost. The morning also saw patchy fog, which is expected to give way as the day progresses. Isolated light showers may develop in the south of the Lower South East by evening. Winds will range from southwest to southeasterly, intensifying near coastal areas.
Saturday will be similar, beginning cold with frosty patches expected in the agricultural regions. Isolated light showers are forecasted mainly along the windward coasts and ranges. Wind directions will remain largely south to southeasterly, with stronger gusts anticipated near the coast.
On Sunday, the agricultural areas will again face frosty and cold conditions early, with the rest of the day remaining dry and the maximum temperatures staying below average.
Additionally, a marine wind warning has been issued for today and will stretch into Saturday midnight, covering several coastal areas including the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, and Gulf St Vincent amongst others. Sailors and marine enthusiasts are advised to be cautious.
In agricultural districts such as the Mid North and Murraylands, a frost warning has also been announced. Ground temperatures could drop to as low as -1 degrees on Friday morning.
