Adelaide’s weather is set to change vary in temperatures this week, starting with hot conditions today followed by cooler weather tomorrow. Today, Monday December 16th, Adelaide will reach a maximum of 38 degrees before a cool change sweeps through in the evening. There is a 20% chance of rain, with scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm later in the day. Winds will be strong, especially around the Spencer Gulf, with gusts reaching up to 40 km/h. The winds will shift from a north-west to a north-east direction in the morning before turning southwest and southerly in the afternoon.
BOM has issued an extreme fire danger warning for several areas, including the Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, and Murraylands, due to the hot and dry conditions. People in these areas are urged to have their Bushfire Survival Plans ready and stay informed about fire risks. A heatwave warning is still in place for the North East Pastoral District, although warnings for the Flinders and Riverland have been lifted.
Looking ahead to Tuesday December 17th, temperatures will drop to a cooler 26 degrees, with a sunny day overall. Winds will remain strong in the morning but will ease in the evening.
The rest of the week will bring more settled weather. On Wednesday December 18th, temperatures will rise slightly to 29 degrees under continued sunny skies. Winds will come from the south-east at speeds of 20 to 30 km/h. Thursday December 19th and Friday December 20th will also be sunny, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees both days.
The week will finish with dry, stable conditions, offering some relief after the earlier extreme weather. Th community is advised to stay informed, especially in areas at risk of bushfires, and to follow any safety advice from local authorities.
