Residents of Adelaide and surrounding areas can expect a sunny Saturday followed by a slight chance of showers on Sunday, according to the latest weather forecasts provided by the Bureau of Meteorology.
Today, Adelaide will enjoy mostly sunny skies with temperatures reaching a high of 25 degrees. Winds originating from the east at speeds of 15 to 25 km/h are expected to lighten towards the middle of the day, later shifting to east to northeasterly in the evening.
BOM predicts no rain for Adelaide today, maintaining a dry atmosphere as residents enjoy their weekend activities under the sun.
The weather situation is being influenced by a high-pressure system centred to the east of the Bight, extending a ridge over the southern parts of South Australia. As this system progresses southeast to position itself near Tasmania by this afternoon, it is forecasted to shift over the Tasman Sea by Sunday morning. The movement of this high-pressure system will pave the way for a couple of broad low-pressure troughs that are anticipated to move slowly across from the west during the weekend and into early next week.
Looking ahead to Sunday, while the morning may start off clear, there’s a 40% chance of showers later in the day, with possible rainfall amounts ranging from 0 to 1 mm. As the day progresses, skies will become partly cloudy with the possibility of showers more likely from late morning. Winds will shift from north to northeasterly at speeds of around 15 to 20 km/h, turning northwest to southwesterly around noon, and then easing off in the late afternoon.
Across South Australia, conditions vary, with morning fog and frost patches expected in the South East districts today. There is a possibility of showers in the western regions and temperatures are predicted to be mostly above average. For those near the coast, afternoon sea breezes will provide some respite from southeast to northeasterly winds.
As Sunday unfolds, isolated showers are anticipated to move across central and eastern parts of South Australia, clearing away from the far west. The possibility of thunderstorms looms in the western and far northeastern areas of the state. Temperature-wise, South Australians can expect another day with maximum temperatures remaining above average.
Following Sunday, a new high-pressure system will begin to move across the southern waters by the middle of next week. This will be followed by a more notable trough over South Australia later in the week, potentially altering weather patterns further.
