Adelaide’s weather forecast for Sunday December 15th and the week ahead

South Australians are facing a period of intense weather, with strong wind and heatwave warnings in place for several regions of the state.

South Australians are facing a period of intense weather, with strong wind and heatwave warnings in place for several regions of the state. Adelaide’s weather will vary over the next few days, with some very hot days, possible showers, and strong winds.

Today, Sunday December 15th, Adelaide will experience a very hot and sunny day, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 40 degrees. There’s a minimal chance of rain at 5%, and winds will shift throughout the day, starting from the east to the northeasterly direction, then changing to northwest to southwesterly, and finally settling to an east to southeasterly breeze in the evening.

On Monday December 16th, conditions will change slightly, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 38 degrees and a minimum of 27 degrees. There’s a 40% chance of rain, with possible showers and a risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the late afternoon and evening. Winds will be strong, starting from the east to northeasterly, shifting to northwest to northeasterly, and later becoming south to southwesterly, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 km/h.

By Tuesday December 17th, the weather in Adelaide will clear up again with a sunny day and a maximum of 26 degrees, after an overnight low of 16 degrees. There’s a 20% chance of rain, with predominantly southwesterly winds turning southerly in the afternoon. Winds will ease throughout the day.

Elsewhere in South Australia, a strong wind warning has been issued for Spencer Gulf on Monday, and marine conditions may be challenging for boaters. In addition, a heatwave warning remains in place for several districts, including Riverland, Mid North, Flinders, and North East Pastoral. The heatwave, which began on Thursday, is being caused by a high pressure system over the Tasman Sea, drawing hot air into the region. A cooler change is expected by Monday, followed by another high-pressure system moving in on Tuesday.

In other parts of the state, the western regions will face scattered showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, with gusty winds and heavy rainfall likely in the far northwest. Hot temperatures will continue, with moderate northeast to northwesterly winds and light coastal sea breezes. On Monday, hot conditions will persist, with isolated thunderstorms and showers, especially in the central and eastern parts of South Australia. By Tuesday, the weather will dry out, with only isolated showers near the southern coasts.

South Aussies are advised to stay informed by monitoring updates from the Bureau of Meteorology and to be prepared for changing weather conditions over the next few days.
