Adelaide’s weather forecast for Sunday December 8th and the week ahead

Adelaide will enjoy mostly sunny skies this Sunday, with a cooler start to the week and potential showers.

Adelaide is set to enjoy mostly sunny weather today with a peak temperature of 26 degrees, despite a partly cloudy morning. The Bureau of Meteorology reports a minimal 5% chance of rain for the region. Winds are light in the morning but will pick up to reach speeds between 15 to 25 km/h from the south to southwesterly direction around noon, shifting to southeasterly as the evening approaches.

Looking ahead to Monday, 9 December, the city can expect a cool start with a minimum temperature of 13 degrees, warming up to 28 degrees throughout the day. While there is a 30% probability of rain, any potential showers are forecasted to occur in the morning and early afternoon before the clouds clear. Winds will shift from east to southeasterly in the morning to west to southwesterly around midday, returning to southeasterly in the evening between 15 to 20 km/h.

Tuesday, 10 December, will see temperatures ranging from a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 29 degrees. The likelihood of rain slightly decreases to 20%, with a slight chance of morning showers before a sunny afternoon sets in. Winds will remain consistent, blowing from the southeasterly direction at 15 to 20 km/h, increasing to 20 to 30 km/h as they vary between southeast and southwest throughout the day.

Across South Australia, the current weather situation is influenced by a low-pressure trough stretching through the northeast, positioned near the northern border. This trough is expected to move northeast towards the Northern Territory and Queensland starting Monday. Concurrently, a ridge of high pressure is advancing into the Bight and is predicted to stabilize over the southern part of the state into the following week.

For the rest of Sunday, the weather across the state will be mixed, with showers and thunderstorms expected in the far north and far west. Some of these may be severe near the northern border, bringing gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. Temperatures in the south are mostly below average while those in the north are close to average. A moderate to fresh breeze from the south to southeast will prevail.

Monday will also see continued showers and occasional thunderstorms in the west and north, with isolated showers expected elsewhere, particularly in the morning and early afternoon. The risk of severe thunderstorms remains in the far northwest, potentially bringing more heavy rainfall. Throughout the state, temperatures will range from near to below average and are expected to be above average in the far west. The day will be tempered by light to moderate winds from the southwest to southeast, with stronger breezes in coastal regions during the afternoon.

Tuesday’s forecast indicates isolated showers and potential thunderstorms continuing in the far north and west, including the possibility of severe storms in the far northwest corner. This could again involve locally heavy rainfall. Temperatures across South Australia are expected to generally remain below average. Moderate winds from the southwest to southeast are likely, with fresh afternoon sea breezes providing some relief.
