The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe heatwave warning for South Australia, specifically for the North West Pastoral District until Friday January 10th. This heatwave is expected to bring temperatures higher than usual for this time of year, with the potential to cause heat-related issues.
For the remainder of today, Adelaide will see mostly sunny conditions, with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees and a minimum of 14 degrees. Winds will be light, originating from the west to southwesterly at 15 to 20 km/h, and will become calm by late evening. There is no rain expected during the day.
On Thursday, temperatures will rise slightly, with a maximum of 33 degrees and a minimum of 20 degrees. The day will start with some cloud cover, which is expected to clear, leading to mostly sunny weather. Winds will shift from south to southwesterly at 20 to 30 km/h during midday, then change to southeasterly at 15 to 25 km/h later in the afternoon. There is a slight chance of rain, around 10%.
Friday will bring another sunny day with a maximum temperature of 33 degrees and a cooler minimum of 17 degrees. Winds will begin as east to southeasterly at 15 to 20 km/h, shifting to northwest to southwesterly at 15 to 25 km/h during the day. By the afternoon, winds will again change to southeasterly to southwesterly. The chance of rain is minimal, at about 5%.
For the wider state of South Australia, Wednesday will see isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the far west, with most areas experiencing above-average temperatures. Thursday will extend this pattern to the agricultural regions, and there may be early thunderstorms around the Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas. By Friday, conditions across the state will dry out, though there could still be a thunderstorm in the far northwest.
These weather patterns are being influenced by a high-pressure system over Tasmania, which extends into the Tasman Sea, and a trough moving in from Western Australia. The trough will bring showers and thunderstorms to the west and northwest until it dissipates on Friday.
