Adelaide residents can expect a series of dynamic weather changes as a trough moves slowly across eastern districts today, followed by a significant complex low pressure system later in the week. This weather situation marks the start of an unsettled period with potential for both showers and thunderstorms.
Today, Adelaide will experience medium chances of showers, which are likely to clear in the afternoon. However, there remains the possibility of a thunderstorm developing during the morning and early afternoon. Winds will primarily range from northwest to northeasterly at 15 to 20 km/h, shifting northwest to southwesterly around midday, and finally settling to east to southeasterly by late afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 30 degrees despite partly cloudy skies.
The weather is set to become more turbulent by Thursday, 17 October. The forecast anticipates a higher likelihood of showers throughout the day with potential thunderstorms. Rainfall could vary from 1 to 8 mm, reflecting an 80% chance of rain. Light winds in the morning will strengthen and shift from northeast to southeasterly at speeds of 15 to 25 km/h, before reverting to a northerly direction by evening.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Strong Wind Warning for Thursday across various coastal areas, including the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, Lower West Coast, and the Central Coast.
On Friday, 18 October, the weather will continue to be adverse, with a high likelihood of showers mainly during the morning and afternoon. Similar to Thursday, an 80% chance of rain is expected, with possible rainfall measuring between 1 and 6 mm. The changing weather dynamics will see winds shifting from north to northwesterly at speeds of 20 to 30 km/h, and then transitioning to strong and gusty southwesterly winds at 25 to 40 km/h in the afternoon. Temperatures will drop to a maximum of 21 degrees, a noticeable decrease compared to earlier in the week.
Over and above these immediate conditions, broader weather patterns across South Australia include isolated showers and thunderstorms over Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas, extending into southeastern parts of the state. Isolated severe thunderstorms are also possible near the eastern border in the afternoon. Fresh southeast to northeasterly winds and afternoon sea breezes are anticipated near the coast.
