Adelaide’s west to come alive with Greek food, dance and culture this weekend

Thebarton Hellenic Festival returns this ANZAC Day with Greek music, dance, cultural performances and a community celebration in Adelaide’s west.

Greek culture is set to take over Adelaide’s west this weekend, as the much-loved Thebarton Hellenic Festival returns for 2026.

Held in the surrounds of St George Church in Thebarton on Saturday April 25, the festival will bring together food, music, dance and community for a full day celebration of Hellenic heritage in South Australia.

This year’s event will begin with a meaningful ANZAC Day commemoration at 12:45pm, recognising the long-standing connection between Australia and Greece, before shifting into a vibrant afternoon and evening program.

Across the day, visitors can expect a packed lineup of performances and cultural showcases reflecting the strength and continuity of Greek culture in the state.

Students from St George College will take to the stage with performances spanning junior through to senior levels, while traditional dance groups including the Messinian Dance School, the Cretan Association of SA Dance Group, GOCSA Dance Academy and St George Hellenic Dance Academy will bring energy and colour to the program.

Live music and entertainment will run throughout the event, alongside cultural presentations from Greek school students and community groups, highlighting the role the next generation is playing in keeping traditions alive.

There will also be formal addresses recognising the contribution of the Greek community in South Australia, adding a moment of reflection to the celebrations.

Member for West Torrens Tom Koutsantonis says, “The Hellenic Festival is a fantastic event for all South Australians to experience and embrace Hellenic culture,” he said.

“From Greek music, dance and food, there is something for everyone to enjoy, and I’d encourage all South Australians who are able to come along and enjoy the festivities.”

Open to the public and welcoming to all, the Thebarton Hellenic Festival is shaping up as a lively, family-friendly way to spend ANZAC Day, blending cultural celebration with community connection.
