Adopt A Monarto Giraffe For World Giraffe Day Today!

Join us in celebrating the world’s tallest living animal, our ginormous giraffes!

World Giraffe Day is today! The exciting annual event was initiated by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF), to celebrate the longest-necked animal on the longest day or night (depending on which hemisphere you live!) of the year – June 21.

Sadly, giraffe are facing trouble in the wild. Habitat loss, poaching and civil unrest have seen giraffe numbers in Africa plummet from around 155,000 in 1985 to about 70,000 today. This worldwide celebration helps promote awareness and support for these amazing animals in the wild.

As a conservation charity, Adelaide’s Monarto Zoo is committed to continuing their successful breeding program to ensure generations to come can enjoy the wonder of these tall, gentle creatures.

They’re also proud partners with GCF, to raise funds for Twiga Tracker, the largest giraffe GPS satellite tracking programme in Africa to learn more about giraffe’s spatial movements and habitat use in the wild.

Find out more about Twiga here.

Head to Monarto today to meet the giraffe keeper at 2.10pm for a great opportunity to see our animals enjoy a favourite treat or toy, view a feed or simply learn more about these amazing creatures from the people who care from them.

If you want to help save these gentle giants, you can make a donation at the Monarto Zoo Giraffe Platform during their Giraffe Keeper presentation or online here. Or simply by adopting Monarto’s giraffe online here.

So celebrate World Giraffe Day today at Monarto Zoo and help us ensure these gorgeous animals stay a stride ahead of extinction!
