So you think you want to dance? Australian Dance Theatre public dance classes start on 27 April, representing the long-awaited opportunity to learn how to dance from Australia’s best dancers.

Adelaide based ADT is regarded as one of the world’s best contemporary dance companies. Artistic Director Garry Stewart and his company have toured the world and been declared “an unique and unrivalled 21st century contemporary dance experience” (BBC).

Taught by the highly acclaimed ADT’s dancers and Adelaide’s leading hip-hop teachers, including Afroditi Rallis and Marissa Angeletos from Flava Dance Studios, the dance classes offer people the chance to get fit and learn new routines.

Larissa McGowan – one of the ADT dancers who has regular guest choreography spots on So You Think You Can Dance will be one of the public dance class teachers

Held at the ADT Studios, the classes are social, interactive and challenging and specifically designed for adults (16 years and older).

A range of beginner through to advance classes in contemporary technique, hip-hop and dance fitness have been scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Classes are charged at a flat rate of $15 per class (no concessions). Advance bookings of four-week semester ‘blocks’ is strongly recommended in order to secure a place in each class.

“Garry Stewart has developed a unique style of choreography using a fusion of ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, gymnastics and martial arts. The training the dancers undertake in the company is rigorous and admired,” said Associate Choreographer and dance class teacher Larissa McGowan. “I’m really looking forward to sharing our expertise through the dance classes.”

“People have been asking ADT to provide dance classes for years. This is our first opportunity to do so. We’re very pleased with the mix that we’re able to offer in our first year,” said Dance Class Co-ordinator Jo Naumann.

PS Don’t miss ADT performing during next week’s Finale of So You Think You Can Dance!
