AFF16 Designer Profile – Casper + Pearl

What started at as a stall at Gilles Street Markets in 2011 has become one of the leading lights in Adelaide design.

Bright and flirty; Casper + Pearl is one of Adelaide’s biggest home grown fashion talents. Starting at our very own Gilles Street Markets in 2011, Stacey Hendrickson – the designer behind the label – created a brand that has caught like wildfire.

From humble beginnings, Stacey is best described as part narrator and past designer, as she likes to make sure all her collections have a story. Casper + Pearl began with Stacey making clothes for herself, her friends, friends of friends, and now for the world. With a whole host of celebrities and bloggers being spotted in her pieces, she’s adamant that the most important person she’s designing for is still the everyday girl. The brand itself is inspired by the idea of a free spirit; of the woman that never wants to grow up. With every collection she paints a picture of sun speckled girls climbing trees, hosting tea parties, and making daisy chains. The label presents a contrast between innocence and mischief, with an air of confidence throughout.

It’s easy to see that the Casper + Pearl collections are inspired by art. With every range, there is at least one statement pattern that adorns the flirtatious cuts – it is part of their signature calling. Even when the brand goes monochrome, there’s still something about the angles and the fabrics that are instantly recognisable as being Casper + Pearl.

This summer you can expect to see their signature print arriving in shades of pink, red and blue altogether. The pattern is a magnificent abstracted design which is somewhere between bold florals and a watercolour painting. For the rest of their range, think ruffles, off the shoulder cuts, halter necks and modern lace done in a very feminine and whimsical way. The collection, just like the brand, is somehow bold, delicate and striking all at once.
