AFL legend and experienced media commentator Warren Tredrea has launched a new media platform focusing on the details and drama behind the business of sport.
The Big Deal provides subscribers with a weekly wrap of the most interesting sports deals and business moves in Australia and around the world, breaking news and a weekly podcast with industry interviews and insights.
Tredrea played 255 games with Port Adelaide, captained his club to a premiership in 2004, received All-Australian honours four times and was inducted into the AFL Hall Of Fame in 2014.
He is a highly regarded media commentator and was a sports presenter with Nine News in Adelaide for eight years.
“I’m excited to give sports fans and industry professionals greater access and insight to the inner workings of the business of sport, as we focus on the contracts, negotiations and sponsorship deals, at home and around the world,” Tredrea said.
Tredrea is partnering with former Nine News colleagues Andrew Montesi and Dion Hayman on the venture.
Montesi is the creator of The Big Deal, and has extensive experience in sports marketing and media having worked with a number of Australian clubs, players’ associations and athletes, and also helped former AFL footballers Matthew Pavlich and James Begley build sports talent startup, PickStar.
Hayman is a sports media veteran who started out at The News, one of Australia’s last afternoon dailies, before spending the next three decades as a TV sport journalist and producer at Channels Seven and Nine.
“The Big Deal is an opportunity to take our unique experiences and insight into the inner workings of sport and share it directly with our audience, with the freedom and fun of independent media,” Montesi said.
“We’re keeping it simple as we start out, but look forward to building on the momentum and interest we’ve got so far.”
The trio have launched The Big Deal podcast in partnership with Australia’s largest independent podcast network, Diamantia Media, the company behind The Betoota Advocate.
